Do the right thing: Serve your patrons without abandoning your principles

A workshop by John T. F. Burgess, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, School of Library and Information Studies

The University of Alabama

Author of Foundations of Information Ethics

In today’s world of rampant dis- and mis-information and YouTube “research,” patrons in all types of libraries frequently request access to materials that do not fit the standards we hold for adding resources to our collections. How do we provide our patrons with adequate answers to their questions without compromising our professional ethics?

Dr. Burgess will give a presentation suitable for providers of reference service is any kind of library and lead a hands-on activity exploring the ethical and moral considerations of serving our entire communities while still maintaining our commitment to collecting and providing high-quality information.

Bring your questions, concerns, and real-life scenarios to share.

Participants will be entered to win a copy of Dr. Burgess’ book! Must be present to win.

You'll also find out more about our Community of Interest and how you can help shape its future.

Presented by Arkansas Library Association's Reference & Instruction Services Community of Interest
