(formerly Arkansas Association of School Librarians)
Function: To organize school librarians and library educators around books, reading, authors and to plan useful programming for them that promotes a culture of reading and enhances life-long learning.
Plans: We plan to offer free PD each month this spring on book clubs, fav books, book talks, book club for librarians, etc. Jan-April. A committee has been formed and built a schedule and PD provider status is in progress.
**Any member of Ar Lib Assoc that is a school librarian or para and any Library Educator at the colleges may be a member of this group. When you renew your ArLA membership, just select this as one of your communities of interest. You can be a member of as many Com of Interest as you want.
This is the schedule for spring PD:
Jan. 19th 3:30 PM – Dr. Charlotte Green of UCA will discuss her grant for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library then the committee will announce the future schedule and the titles to read for the April meeting book club.
Feb. 16th 3:30 PM – Author zoom with Kristin Gray author of Vilonia Beebe Takes Charge and The Amelia Six (about Amelia Earhart). Her books are available on Amazon. They are middle grade books.
March 16th 3:30 PM- Bring a favorite book and make a short pitch for it (any level or genre). The hosts will have several to pitch if needed.
April 20th 3:30 PM – Book discussions on Only Black Girls in Town by Brandy Colbert (ages 9-11 yrs) and This is My America by Kim Johnson (jr/sr high). Books discussion leaders are Dr Jeff Whittingham of UCA and Dr Kevin Powell of UCA. Both books on Amazon and deal with diversity and racism issues.
