4 Faculty/Instructor Librarian Positions: UAMS, Little Rock, AR

JOB POSTING:  4 Faculty/Instructor (Entry Level) Positions at UAMS Library in Little Rock, AR     

We are excited to announce that the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Library is expanding its Education & Research Services (E&RS) Department and we have just posted 4 new faculty positions at entry/Instructor level. We are looking for individuals with a passion for working in a world-class academic medical environment and a desire to work on a collegial team of experienced, nationally recognized health information professionals.

Recently we have increased opportunities for extended activities within the fields of outreach, education, research, and clinical areas of UAMS.  As an informationist/librarian with position-specific responsibilities, you will also serve as Liaison to assigned departments, units and colleges. Please note that all new faculty will receive training in the required responsibilities.  Faculty are also mentored in professional development and promotion requirements.  

UAMS serves all of Arkansas and is the largest academic health sciences center in the state. Our faculty, staff, and students work and study in a stimulating and culturally diverse environment. The UAMS Library serves all missions of UAMS and we are the state’s only Resource Library within the Network of the National Library of Medicine.

Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas and the largest metropolitan city within the state.  Information on the beautiful, vibrant city of Little Rock can be found at  Arkansas is called the "Natural State" for good reason with 52 state parks and extensive opportunities for hiking, birding, fishing, camping, rock climbing and much more. Below are brief descriptions of each but please see the links for the full job descriptions including qualifications. 


Collaborates with faculty to identify and deliver course-integrated instruction

Promotes the integration of information resource literacy into the curricula of all UAMS colleges

Investigates new technologies; designs and implements new initiatives to improve the delivery of instructional and informational services; and provides training as necessary

Teaches classes on use of biomedical information resources

Plans and evaluates educational services within the Library  

Works with library personnel within other departments to ensure they are prepared to successfully assist users and utilize knowledge-based resources

Develops educational materials including online tutorials and LibGuides

Utilizes online meeting spaces (such as Zoom or IVN) for remote educational sessions


Patient rounding in clinical settings to provide health care professionals with evidence-based information resources, services and education

Promotes and teaches use of Evidence-Based Practice in the healthcare setting

Assesses and responds to information needs of health care professionals and students in a patient/family centered care environment

Collaborates with clinical faculty and residents for research and educational needs

Conducts literature searches

Works with the Clinical Services Librarian (CSL) to expand the CSL program

Contributes to the Clinical Services web resources

Teaches library classes on biomedical information resources

Attains working knowledge of clinical information technologies

Collaborates with Patient & Family Resource Center to identify information needs

Supports hospital nursing staff with research and information requests related to pursuit of magnet status

Acts as backup to CSL for liaison duties at Arkansas Children’s Hospital


Teaches biomedical information resources

Conducts literature searches

Participates in liaison and outreach activities

Consults on information resources for projects

Promotes awareness of library services and resources to affiliated institutions

Shares responsibilities for Library's social media, plus creates LibGuides (web pages) and tutorials


Conducts the community and regional outreach activities of the Library

Works with UAMS Regional Centers around the state and the staff at each to identify information needs, training needs and opportunities for collaborative projects

Acts as the UAMS Library’s representative to the Network of the National Library of Medicine to promote the resources and services of the National Library of Medicine

Identifies grant funding for outreach activities & possible collaborations

Assists with outreach exhibits, presentations and classes

Serves as the campus liaison for the UAMS College of Public Health
